AMAZON SPHERES

The Spheres Bezos built in downtown Seattle contain 40,000+ plants. The largest—their crown jewel—is a 50' Rusty Fig Ficus they nabbed from a tree farm in southern California. Amazon asked us to tell the story of this logistically-complex, botanically-significant, 47-year-old tree. Our response was simple: road trip.

Co-directed and copiloted this journey with Rubi. Do your best to ignore that she’s strapped to a tractor-trailer getting five miles to the gallon. We had to.

This glorious ginger is Nick, a rising WSU senior at the time. His whole job was to water the tree whenever the truck stopped. He did ok, save the speeding tickets.
